Les Questions (leh kestion (nasalize the on) 1.To form a question just raiSE YOUR VOICE at the end. For example, Tu aimes dANSER? Do you like to dance? Il aime voYAGER? Does he like to travel?
2.Another way to ask a question is to throw this expression at the beginning of the sentence, to form a question. est-ce que? (ehs khe) For example, Est-ce que tu aimes danser? Do you like to dance. Est-ce qu'il aime voyager? Does he like to travel? (note that the 'e' from que was dropped, because it is followed by a word with a vowel, such as il, elle, ils, elles)
Est-ce qu'ils vont au parc? Are they going to the park?
Est-ce qu'elle va au cinéma? Is she going to the movies?
3.Another way to form a question is to take a statement and flip the subject & verb around. This is more formal than the questions.
For example, (statement)Tu danses- (you dance.) Q: danses-tu? (Do you dance?) (statement) il aime voyager-(he likes to travel) Q: aime-t-il voyager?-(Does he like to travel?) (statement) Elle parle- she speaks. Q: Parle-t-elle?- (Does she speak?)
**Note that the letter 't' is added, when the verb ends in a vowel, and the next word begins with a vowel.
Do not use 'inversion' with 'je', just use est-ce que.
Est-ce que vous comprenez? (ehs kou) vu comprehnee) (Do you understand?)
(inversion)Comprenez-vous? (Do you understand?)
(intonation)Vous comPRENEZ? (Do you UNDERSTAND? : )
